The Harvard lecture today is fascinating and is filling me with questions about my role as an educator and our collective responsibility as educators to adequately encourage holistic growth and development in children and youth. The discussions of post-trauma growth and development are inspiring. It is so important to remember that we are equipped with innate responses to mitigate fear and stress and that from trauma experiences learning and growth may occur. The lecturer has repeated multiple times, “Trauma is not a destiny.”

After the lecture, the Q&A began with a moment of silence for George Floyd, his family, and all of those experiencing and living with the trauma of racism and racial violence. I am thankful for the conviction of Derek Chauvin yesterday, and I am hopeful that this is one small step towards healing and towards our growth as a nation in need transformation.
